How does one begin to explain who they are? I guess just start, right? And see where this goes? Which is not unlike how the story goes. Life has been a meandering path where I have learned to follow my heart and lean in to the teachings, and learn from the teachers, along the way (those people I will bring mention to here). I have always been a contemplative which has led to poetry writing, a degree in environmental literature, yoga teacher trainings, vipasana retreats and living at Mount Madonna Center, a yoga community in the southern Santa Cruz mountains.
The study of environmentalism and a love of travel unfolded into exploration by bicycle and a series of bike tours through California, Oregon and Washington. The physical and the spiritual meet-up when on a bike tour. There's ample time to contemplate.
The study of yoga led to an interest and self-directed study of Ayurveda that continues to this day with research into the works of Dr. Vasant Lad and Dr. Douillard. It was at a silent weekend retreat at Mount Madonna Center when I met Vanessa Stone and began volunteering with the Amala Foundation as a counselor at the Austin Global Youth Peace Summit. I eventually moved to Austin to continue studying energy work with Vanessa Stone. This work is steeped in studying energetic anatomy, bringing balance to our more subtle energies, and restoring innate wisdom and intuition. Practices include hands-on energetic body work, meditative inquiry and contemplative art and writing.
With the foundation of energetic bodywork I went on to pursue a graduate degree in Traditional Chinese and Integrative Medicine. Advanced studies were in orthopedics, fertility, and acupuncture for recovery as an Acudetox specialist. It was here I found an avenue for my personal interest in combining eating disorder/body dysmorphia recovery work with alternative therapies to facilitate the restoration of the soul and encourage lasting balance.
